Finding, Getting, and Keeping a Job

There are many things to think about and questions to answer about finding, getting, and keeping a job such as:

  • What kinds of jobs do I like?
  • Where would I like to work?
  • What time of the day do I work best?
  • Will I need help finding a job; who do I talk to?
  • Do I know what to do to keep a job?

Who do I ask for help?

If you are in school, your school counselor or a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) counselor will be able to help. A VR counselor works for the state of Indiana and provides services to people whose disability keeps them from getting and keeping a job. You may be eligible if you have a physical, mental, or emotional disability that keeps you from getting a job.

If you have not met with a VR counselor by the end of your junior year, talk with your school counselor or teacher. Your VR counselor will be invited to the exit case conference committee. Vocational Rehabilitation Services are provided at no cost.

Some of the Services available to you include...

Supported Employment This is for people who need help in finding a job and need training and support in keeping their job.

Post-Secondary Education This is more educational training. It may be needed to help you get the kind of job you would like.
